What is the difference between cream and whipping cream, light and heavy?

All of my recipes are calling for different things, and I want to know if i can use the same thing. Is heavy whiping cream the same as cream? Whats the difference between them and light and heavy?What is the difference between cream and whipping cream, light and heavy?
Go to the store and look at all of the different available 'creams' in the dairy section. Heavy whipping cream is actually 'more cream' and whips up much faster and 'holds' under refrigeration better. Whipping cream can be whipped but it takes longer and it 'separates' into 'clots' and water even under refrigeration, but not for the first day or two. Cream is just cream ... it can be whipped, but it takes forever even with an electric mixer, and it starts to separate immediately. If you use the exact 'cream' the recipe calls for, your recipe will be better, but you can use 'heavy whipping cream' for 'whipping cream' and get as good or better a 'flavor/texture' and you can use whipping cream for regular cream with the same effect. If you are simply 'pouring' the cream into the recipe or pouring it on the recipe, again, use your own judgment. What is the difference between cream and whipping cream, light and heavy?
Simply put, whipping cream is for additions on top of the recipe, the heavy cream is the one where you whip it up and beat it and make it thick. (but don't beat it and let it settle, it'll separate the buttery part and the tasty part. The buttery part floats, so I don't recommend it.)





Light cream has less fat, about twenty, thirty percent. It's used mostly used for putting in drinks in the morning.
