It sounds like you really need to add some colour to liven up the room. Don't be afraid to go bold -- not only will this add visual interest and a focal point, but it will also give you a wider selection of colours that you can introduce in the room. These paintings are all abstracts, but you could choose any subject/style using these types of colours. With your colour scheme so far, I would consider apple to subtle lime greens, many shades of yellow even into the ambers, a deep orange could work if chosen carefully, as could red. Paintings and other decorations should be dark colored. Navy is best.
I would use yellow and red. You can mix patterns with these colors for a french country look. If you like the beach look, go with white and blue. If you like formal, go with gold and burgundy.
A light tan would give the contrast that you need between the walls and the floor.
